HOW WE RAISE OUR PUPPIES

Home Raised puppies

Draycot Meadows is a small, in-home breeding program. To ensure each pup receives our undivided attention we limit the number of litters we have each year. Our goal is for our puppies to be well rounded and confident, with an eager to please attitude when they go home.

Our puppies are part of our home from day one. We have a whelping room specifically designated for our breeding girls. The pups are born and spend their first few weeks here as their eyes and ears open and they begin to toddle. We provide challenges to strengthen their stamina and teach them to overcome obstacles. They even begin learning to use potty trays! Classical music plays in the background as we believe this helps to influence a calm sense of being.

Between 4 and 5 weeks of age, the pups move from the whelping room to the center of our home where they are surrounded by things like the vacuum, other dogs, the doorbell, dish washer, coffee grinder, washer/dryer, the TV, music, and depending on weather, play time outside. We also introduce every day sounds recorded sounds such as a room full of people, babies crying, construction and traffic, telephones and door bells ringing, police sirens, as an introduction to socialization and sound desensitization.

Our puppies are raised following Avidog and Puppy Culture protocols which includes Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) the benefits of which include: stronger heart, greater endurance, stronger immune system, faster recovery from and tolerance for stress, among others. We also engage our pups in Early Scent Introduction (ESI) providing a different and distinct scent each day. This program is designed to enhance their ability to identify, and react to specific scents. Enrichment activities give our puppies the best possible start. We begin socializing the puppies, use Startle Recovery exercises to prime puppies for the challenges of a busy life and Foundation exercises for the prevention of separation anxiety.

We spend each and everyday interacting and caring for our puppies ensuring they have the best start in life!
